The Société
de Neuroendocrinologie (SNE), the vibrant French Neuroendocrine Society,
was founded by the famous French Neuroendocrinologist Jacques Benoît
in 1971. Among the 295 active members of SNE are not only French researchers
but also Neuroendocrinologists from many other countries including Belgium,
Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Canada and the USA. The annual
meetings of SNE are usually held in September, either in a French city
or in a foreign country. For instance, during the past decade, SNE has
organized its meetings in Geneva, Switzerland (1991), Leuven, Belgium
(1993), Sherbrooke, Quebec (1995) and Spa, Belgium (2001). SNE has also
organized joint meetings with the German, British and Canadian neuroendocrine
groups. SNE is particularly keen at promoting young neuroendocrinologists.
Each year, thanks to the sponsorship of Servier laboratories, five SNE
prizes are awarded to talented trainees who are invited to present an
oral communication at the annual meeting. The special lecture of SNE is
called Jacques Benoît Lecture.
The recent recipients were André Calas (Marseille, 1997), Allan
Herbison (Lille, 1998), Jacques Epelbaum
(Poitiers, 2000) and Paul Pevet (Spa, 2001).
To keep up with the tradition, both the SNE-Servier young investigator
Prizes and the Jacques Benoît Lecture will be given in Bristol.
For information,
including membership and SNE-Servier Prizes, please contact the General
Secretary (tillet@tours.inra.fr)
