Foundation

The International Neuroendocrine Federation, successor to the International Society of Neuroendocrinology (ISN), was established on June 22nd 2000 at a joint meeting in Toronto of the Council-elect of the Federation and the Council of the ISN.
The ISN Council agreed at this meeting to dissolve the ISN to allow succession by the Federation. The ISN funds were transferred to the Federation.

Purpose

The purpose of the Federation is to promote the development of research and education in basic and applied Neuroendocrinology.

Membership

Whereas the ISN comprised individual members, the Federation comprises:
1) the membership of each formally constituted national or trans-national neuroendocrine society or group, recognised as legal entities, who have joined the Federation, and
2) individual members (including existing ISN members) who are not represented through membership of a formal group, but have a regional representative.

Structure

The society or regional representatives ( one per constituency, elected by their constituency) are members of the Council of the Federation.
Other members of the Council are the Officers, elected by the Council. These Officers, the President, Secretary and Treasurer, comprise the Executive Committee of the Federation.
The Chairman of the Congress Scientific Programme Committee (appointed by the Council) is ex officio a member of the Council, as is the Chairman of the Publications Committee (appointed by the Council).
The policy and actions of the Federation are determined by the Council, and carried out by the Executive.
Council members and Officers serve for 4 years.

Activities

In pursuit of its aims the Federation will:

  • organise an International Congress of Neuroendocrinology every 4 years;
  • negotiate preferential subscription rates for journals in the field for Federation members, and designate these as official journals;
  • promote new methods of communication among neuroendocrinologists;
  • promote interaction with cognate groups;
  • support participation by younger members in international conferences and training courses.

Benefits of membership

Contact with neuroendocrinologists around the world through the Federation web-site and e-mail listings: advertisement of jobs, meetings and discussion.
Contribution to the planning of the International Congresses of Neuroendocrinology.
Reduced personal subscription rates for members for the journals in neuroendocrinology.
.Attendance at scientific meetings of member societies or groups freely at local members' rates.
.Improved timing and co-ordination of scientific meetings.

Members of the Council (see below for names)

The membership is still being established: to date it comprises representatives of the British
Neuroendocrine Group, the European Neuroendocrine Association, the Japan Neuroendocrine
Society, the Societe de Neuroendocrinologie (France), the American Neuroendocrine Society and
regional representatives from Australasia, Canada, China, Europe, India, Korea, Latin America.
